Controller
Job description
-5–8 years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally in production, media, or creative industries.
-Deep understanding of GAAP, cash flow, and job costing.
-Expert in QuickBooks, Excel/Google Sheets, and financial modeling.
-Strong communicator who can explain financial data clearly to creative and operations teams.
-Proven track record improving systems, processes, and reporting accuracy.
-Analytical thinker with high attention to detail and a bias toward action.
-Reliable, discreet, and comfortable managing sensitive financial information.
-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).
Accounting & Financial Management
-Oversee all day-to-day accounting including AR, AP, payroll review, and reconciliations.
-Manage month-end and year-end close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
-Maintain GAAP-compliant books and work directly with external CPA firms on audits and tax filings.
-Review and approve journal entries, expense reports, and job reconciliations.
-Monitor cash flow, manage reserves, and forecast future cash needs.
-Lead the preparation of annual budgets and department-level forecasts.
Reporting & Analysis
-Deliver accurate monthly and quarterly financial reports with insights leadership can act on no later than the 15th of the following month.
-Track job-level profitability, gross margins, and contribution across departments.
-Build dashboards to provide real-time financial visibility for leadership.
-Maintain and verify accuracy of all company KPIs on a weekly basis, ensuring data is current, validated against financial reports, and ready for leadership review each Monday.
-Highlight trends, risks, and opportunities that impact performance.
-Support decision-making around pricing, staffing, and capital allocation.
Process & Systems
-Strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and approval workflows.
-Improve systems and reporting between Production, Operations, and Accounting.
-Optimize use of QuickBooks, Google Sheets, and CRM integrations to streamline data flow.
-Build repeatable financial processes that support scale and speed.
Leadership & Collaboration
-Partner with the Managing Partner to align financial planning with business strategy.
-Provide financial clarity to department heads through reports, training, and guidance.
-Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure budgets, costs, and forecasts stay accurate and actionable.
-Establish yourself as a trusted advisor and operational leader across the business.
Results
-Financials are accurate, on time, and fully reconciled every month by the 15th.
-Cash flow is clear and predictable, with no surprises.
-Leadership has visibility into performance and confidence in the numbers.
-Systems and processes run efficiently, reducing friction between teams.
-Job-level and company-level profitability are understood, tracked, and optimized.
-Company KPIs are fully updated and accurate each week, giving leadership a clear and reliable snapshot of performance without delays or data discrepancies.
-The Managing Partner can focus on growth, knowing the financial foundation is solid and strategic.
$130,000-$180,000 / per year
