We are seeking a seasoned Corporate Controller with deep experience in production or entertainment finance. This position is a pivotal management role partnering closely with the company principals and senior leadership to ensure the integrity, scalability and strategic alignment of our financial systems.
This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-moving, high-performance environment and understands the nuances of project-based production accounting - from initial bid through final wrap.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, credit cards, petty cash and bank reconciliations
• Manage project-based accounting for multiple commercial productions simultaneously
• Supervise cost tracking, and variance analysis for each production
• Ensure accurate and timely client billing, revenue recognition, and cost reporting
• Oversee payroll processes, including union/non-union freelance crews as well as non-union talent
• Review and approve all union and non-union payroll with payroll company coordinator, ensuring accuracy with union compliance rules and cost allocation with original budgets
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Deliver timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Produce timely and accurate participation reporting statements for Directors and EPs upon production wrap
• Thorough understanding of corporate/production insurance requirements and claims submissions, serving as the key liaison with our outside insurance provider.
• Review and provide recommendations for legal documents, including agency production agreements, vendor contracts, director employment agreements, foreign production service company agreements, NDAs, etc.
• Manage cash flow forecasting and production funding requirements
• Effectively communicate with agency business managers to coordinate vendor onboarding, invoicing and follow-up of outstanding receivables
• Coordinate with our local production service providers on foreign shoots for production payments, final actualized accounting reporting as well as talent buyout renewals and related talent agreements
• Serve as lead interface with external auditors, tax advisors, and production partners
• Continuously refine accounting systems, reporting tools, and workflows to support company growth and operational efficiency
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred
• 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Mandatory to have prior experience in commercial television production environment
• Experienced performance with ERP (Corporate Accounting) requirements along with project accounting skills, job costing and production financial management
• Proficiency with accounting and industry production software (CAPS+ accounting, Hot Budget, Media Services and/or similar platforms)
• In-depth knowledge of payroll platforms and union reporting (DGA, IATSE, Teamsters), including successful management of union regulatory compliance audits
• Experience working with agency-driven commercial budgets and proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Possess strong, effective communication skills to collaborate with Executive Producers, Line Producers, and Production Managers on project financial matters.
• Experience improving or implementing accounting workflows and automation tools
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational ability, and problem-solving skills
• Advanced Excel skills
