In this role, you will work alongside Physical Production to help oversee the planning, budgeting, and cost control of film and television projects. You will serve as the primary architect of production budgets used to evaluate and select shooting locations for domestic and international projects, while also providing comprehensive production finance oversight from early budgeting through delivery. Your expertise in incentive programs, crew fringe rates, production accounting, and multi-jurisdictional cost structures will directly influence major production decisions for our clients.
Budgeting & Planning
• Develop comprehensive production budgets for film and television projects across a variety of formats and budget levels
• Conduct detailed location comparisons by modeling costs across multiple domestic and international jurisdictions to inform shooting location decisions
• Help prepare feature film and episodic television budgets and flip to other jurisdictions as needed
• Review and analyze budgets prepared by line producers, UPMs, production companies, and production service companies
• Review ATL commitments, BTL staffing and post assumptions, crew rates, fringes, and departmental budgets
• Build and maintain studio budget templates within the desired Chart of Accounts, ensuring all desired billbacks are included and accurately reflected
• Prepare detailed budget notes and assumptions documentation for client review and financing purposes
• Calculate and apply accurate crew fringe rates, guild minimums, and union benefit contributions for each territory
• Research, analyze, and apply relevant production incentive programs (tax credits, rebates, grants) for federal, state, and international jurisdictions
• Work with Physical Production and Tax Incentive Consultants to ensure budgets are properly tagged for tax incentive eligibility
• Review qualified/non-qualified spend assumptions and rebate calculations
• Support incentive audits and the final collection of rebates
• In-depth knowledge applied to U.S. state film and television tax credit programs, including California’s Film & TV Tax Credit Program (Programs 3.0 and 4.0) and Canadian/international programs
• Work with accountants to develop and monitor production cashflow schedules
• Maintain current knowledge of collective bargaining agreements including DGA, SAG-AFTRA, IATSE, and Teamsters
Production Finance Oversight & Cost Reporting
• Monitor weekly cost reports throughout prep, production, and post, reviewing for discrepancies, variances, EFCs, ETCs, and committed but unpaid costs (POs)
• Identify potential overages related to labor and material spend, schedule shifts, overtime, and vendor commitments
• Hot cost monitoring
• Provide advisory support on budget feasibility, incentive qualification strategies, and cost-saving opportunities
• Support broader Danesi + Co team on payroll oversight and production finance consulting engagements as needed
Post-Production Finance Management
• Monitor costs through post production, including editorial, VFX, sound, music, and delivery
• Assist in the review of post vendor bids to ensure post spend remains aligned with the approved budget
• Track overages and adjust cost reports as needed
